![]() Nope, sorry. It doesn't solve any licensing issues. See README: <snip> ** Software using this code must display the following message visibly in or ** on each copy of the software: ** "Code from FAAD2 is copyright (c) Nero AG, www.nero.com" ** in, for example, the about-box or help/startup screen. </snip> *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 146485 *** (In reply to comment #1) > Nope, sorry. It doesn't solve any licensing issues. See README: Hmm, did you read the latest news entry on the homepage audiocoding.com? Check it out, they seem to think they have solved the issue. (In reply to comment #2) Yeah, I did. And see Bug 146485 Comment #8. I plain don't see how does "visibly in the software .. in, for example, the about-box or help/startup screen" differ from "visibly in or on each copy of the software ... in, for example, the about-box or help/startup screen." It's still the same advertising clause with the same effect. Anyway, bugzilla is not a place for this, if you want to debate this, take it to gentoo-dev mailing list. How about reopening this bug for faad2-2.6.1 which seems to have _really_ fixed the licensing issues (according to Flameeyes' blog)? Working on it... http://farragut.flameeyes.is-a-geek.org/articles/2007/11/01/and-finally-maybe-the-community-voice-was-heard Great ;) 2.6.1 is no good to go on technical ground this time: the ABI changed but the soname didn't, Alexis is working on coordinating with Nero AG to have a fix that won't bring us on a different soname than the eventual one Nero will use on a new bugfix release. bumped |
