from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94421 seems theres a bad tar.gz of hal with an md5 of a4e6c35ec2fd76562ce69e86fa258fbc. md5sum should be: 3386817a6811cce803bcfa8a20b05c51 user thinks it was ftp://ftp.jetstreamgames.co.nz/dist/gentoo , but that does not seems to be a mirror anymore.
