The build system sets optimization and debugging levels (e.g.: -g0, -O2) in setupext/platform.py and setupext/build_ext.py. This is upstream's tested and supported default configuration... Therefore, why should we change it and open ourselves to, completely avoidable, runtime bugs by allowing unsupported configurations?

If there is a flag that is known to break, then it should be filtered out with filter-flags. Also, -g0 means that it is impossible to have debug symbols here.
