The build system sets optimization and debugging levels (e.g.: -g0, -O2) in setupext/platform.py and setupext/build_ext.py.

This is upstream's tested and supported default configuration... Therefore, why should we change it and open ourselves to, completely avoidable, runtime bugs by allowing unsupported configurations?

because in gentoo, the cflags are about a user's choice. If there is a flag that is known to break, then it should be filtered out with filter-flags.

Also, -g0 means that it is impossible to have debug symbols here.
