Did you try compressing the log? with xz for example

I guess this a rust-1.78 issue where the dependency restriction for dev-lang/rust was inadequate when dev-lang/rust-bin could be merged?

Yeah i tried emerging rust-1.77.1 prior to emerging firefox to see if that fixed it, but it didnt

Try eselect rust list/set before emerging firefox. You have them both installed indeed

dev-lang/rust:             1.77.1::gentoo
dev-lang/rust-bin:         1.78.0::gentoo

Got the same error compiling firefox after selecting 1.77.1

Should I try to emerge --depclean and reinstall all firefox dependencies AFTER selecting rust-1.77.1?

after selecting rust-1.77.1 and running emerge --depclean to remove all firefox dependencies, running emerge -av firefox no longer pulls rust-1.78.0-bin. I will try to emerge it all again and report back.

(It's also pulling clang and lld toolchains as version 17, not 18 now)

(ignore, pulled both 17 and 18 for lld and clang toolchains, wish i could delete comments :D)

You didn't have +lto use flag enabled with +clang. If you did, you'd need to install llvm chain that matches the virtual/rust subslot.

If this happens now, post a new build log since the one you posted shows you were using rust-1.78. The error should be different.

I'm reemerging all the dependencies first just to be sure. If it fails again ill post the log.

I'm just using default use flags for firefox

OK so Firefox finally emerged successfully. Here's what I did in order:

emerge -av =virtual/rust-1.77.1

eselect rust set <rust-1.77.1>

emerge --depclean (to remove all dependencies pulled by Firefox prior to doing the rust fix)

emerge -av firefox
