When trying to compile app-arch/7zip-24.05 on an AMD64 system with sane CFLAGS it fails. I think the error has something to do with AVX512 as the build log has this: Blake2s.c:(.text+0x225b): undefined reference to `CPU_IsSupported_AVX512F_AVX512VL' The package compiles fine on another machine with no AVX512 support. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge -av app-arch/7zip 2. 3. Actual Results: The package fails to build Expected Results: The package builds successfully and is installed Portage 3.0.63 (python 3.11.9-final-0, default/linux/amd64/23.0/desktop/systemd, gcc-13, Normally builds fine for me with -march=native (skylake), but can get the same failure if I do CFLAGS="-march=znver4 -O2" ftr.
Using what gcc suggest CPU_IsSupported_VAES_AVX2 instead of CPU_IsSupported_AVX512F_AVX512VL help 7zip to compile. How sane is this approach, I don't know.

That checks for different instructions, so it's not sane. Not that it'll matter if the machine has avx512 support. You could alternatively pass -mno-avx512f as a non-patch temporary workaround (or use -march=x86-64-v3 or so, would fail with v4) From a quick look at the code, upstream has commented out that function: /* // fix it: BoolInt CPU_IsSupported_AVX512F_AVX512VL(void) { And also the use of it in one place: #if 0 && defined(Z7_BLAKE2S_USE_AVX512_ALWAYS) CPU_IsSupported_AVX512F_AVX512VL() && but seems it forgot one

Not that it'll > matter if the machine has avx512 support. > Obviously, but it seems to me that the check ocured only on march where avx512 is present. So if -march is correct set it could be if whatever is true. Thats what I asked.
It is fixed in ver. 24.06.
