Disabling per package LTO (https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/LTO#Disable_LTO_per_Package) allows them to build successfully.
Can you include meson-log.txt too?
Created attachment 886670 [details] meson-log.txt Oh and I forgot to say by "and friends" I mean: - x11-libs/vte-0.74.2 - gui-libs/vte-common-0.74.2 - x11-terms/gnome-terminal
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/blob/master/meson.build?ref_type=heads#L443 lol
I wonder what changed recently: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/commit/b55e2423ba4fe3d7d8ce52536eea69dede64a61f.
Used to be, if you passed -flto then that check simply didn't trigger because it was handled via CFLAGS instead of b_lto=true. Now we are "correctly" integrating with the upstream build system and vte is empowered to bitterly protest.

Should I open another bug report for this same issue but for gui-libs/vte-common-0.76.3 and friends? looks like the filter fix didn't make it into these ebuilds.
Seems like this got added back in by a long-running PR that didn't take care to re-merge interim changes?
