... is it upset by the trace-cmd meson port? surely not.
(In reply to Sam James from comment #9) > ... is it upset by the trace-cmd meson port? surely not. no, it is - the trace-cmd meson setup is weird and handles the library separately. ew.
Okay, so: - They really should be using meson subprojects - Daniel, who did the meson port, really tried to get them to (see https://lore.kernel.org/linux-trace-devel/20230105144122.gus5jxbqcbyfaq3x@carbon.lan/T/#t) - Upstream aren't keen on it (although interestingly they cite that they use Portage for their builds, presumably in CrOS, so I don't get why they then objected to it...) We have two options: 1. Revert to the cheesy Makefile setup as in older ebuilds 2. Split libtracecmd into a separate package like SUSE did (which is also where Daniel is from) Option 2 kind of sucks because we'll have trace-cmd built against a bundled static library, while other stuff uses another copy, but upstream seem to feel quite strongly about this, so not sure there's much point arguing.
The bug has been referenced in the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=04ceac24b6704ef784c72231a43bf323d5bbc5b9 commit 04ceac24b6704ef784c72231a43bf323d5bbc5b9 Author: Sam James <sam@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2023-07-05 01:09:46 +0000 Commit: Sam James <sam@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2023-07-05 01:09:53 +0000 profiles: mask =dev-util/trace-cmd-3.2 Doesn't install all needed files by e.g. kernelshark. Need to either split into libtracecmd for the libraries or revert to Makefiles. I'll wait a few days for feedback on the above.

I'd go option 2 as seems we have to accept the bundled static library fact..
