playerctl --follow does not display output for most events when run from a shell script. This is fixed in version 2.4.1, which hasn't been merged into the gentoo repo yet. Hopefully with an open bug it will be merged sooner. GH issue: https://github.com/altdesktop/playerctl/issues/218
