* Messages for package app-i18n/man-pages-l10n-4.17.0: * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s). * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file * a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org/ unless you report exactly * which two packages install the same file(s). See * https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Knowledge_Base:Blockers for tips on how * to solve the problem. And once again, please do NOT file a bug report * unless you have completely understood the above message. * * Detected file collision(s): * * /usr/share/man/fr/man1/tree.1.bz2 * * Searching all installed packages for file collisions... * * Press Ctrl-C to Stop * * app-text/tree-2.0.4:0::gentoo * /usr/share/man/fr/man1/tree.1.bz2 * * Package 'app-i18n/man-pages-l10n-4.17.0' NOT merged due to file * collisions. If necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole * content of the above message. Reproducible: Always
I’m also hitting this one. pikachu ~ # equery belongs /usr/share/man/fr/man1/tree.1.bz2 * Searching for /usr/share/man/fr/man1/tree.1.bz2 ... app-text/tree-2.0.4 (/usr/share/man/fr/man1/tree.1.bz2)

Just to be explicit: from the tree-2.1.0 release notes: - Remove the (very outdated) French version of the manpage. Look to localization projects such as Debian's 'manpages-l10n' for localized translations. (hmartink) which is why the newer versions >=2.1.0 are fine.
Added a blocker for now. I am going to shift the blame to app-text/tree :) because I find the following in its release notes (CHANGES file): Version 2.1.0 (12/26/2022) [...] - Remove the (very outdated) French version of the manpage. Look to localization projects such as Debian's 'manpages-l10n' for localized translations. (hmartink) @jstein: Can app-text/tree-2.1.0 be stabilised? If yes, please add the CC-ARCHES keyword.
I had the same problem. Moving to tree-2.1.0 worked fine.
