Code Listing 2: Installing a kernel source # emerge gentoo-dev-sources where upon I get: kali init.d # emerge gentoo-dev-sources Calculating dependencies emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "gentoo-dev-sources". So I guess the docs are wrong :) :) Naturally I checked out the kernel docs page and that was even more confusing (which is a seperate bug 90453) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. read ppc64 kernel install page 2. type emerge gentoo-dev-sources 3. *sigh* Actual Results: emerge failed to find the package. Expected Results: It should have installed a kernel or the docs should have correctly stated to use gentoo-sources.
the kernel docs page links to the official page at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-kernel.xml, not the gentoo wiki as you stated in bug 90453 word on the street (IRC) says you are right about this, but i don't have comit, so we will have to wait for someone else
fixed the ppc64 handbook, lvm2, ipv6, and gentoo-kernel docs to not refer to 'gentoo-dev-sources' anymore
Mike, the gentoo-kernel.xml document shouldn't had been patched. The reference to the gentoo-dev-sources was correct in that context -- the chapter's title is: 'Previously provided kernel packages'. I have commited the reversed changes myself - I have though, bumped the version, as the document's content changed since the last version. hope this is ok.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-kernel.xml I cant see any mention of gentoo-dev-sources in that doc. Unless it's ment to be here.. (which would make more sense)... 4. Previously provided kernel packages gentoo-sources gentoo-sources, a 2.6 kernel patched with bug, security and stability fixes, can now be found under the gentoo-sources package. ? So... "gentoo-sources" is "under the gentoo-sources package" :) Maybe the first two gentoo-sources should read gentoo-dev-sources ?
Cameron, see my previous comment and wait about an hour until the web nodes syncronize my commit. Now, the paragraph states: ==== gentoo-dev-sources gentoo-dev-sources, a 2.6 kernel patched with bug, security and stability fixes, can now be found under the gentoo-sources package.
my bad, didnt read enough context, was going by grep
