dev-libs/libayatana-appindicator and dev-libs/libayatana-indicator are the only appindicators implementation that are still maintained and developped, while libappindicator are unmaintained for ages. In this case, you need to simply pass --with-libindicator=ayatana configure option and update depends to dev-libs/ayatana-ido and dev-libs/libayatana-indicator Thanks
