Since today dovecot depends on openssl 1.1... any special reason for it? Im using it for months with openssl 3.0... Reproducible: Always Actual Results: Calculating dependencies... done! * Dependencies could not be completely resolved due to * the following required packages not being installed: * * dev-libs/openssl:0/1.1 pulled in by: * net-mail/dovecot-2.3.19.1-r1 * * Have you forgotten to do a complete update prior to depclean? The * most comprehensive command for this purpose is as follows: * * emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world * * Note that the --with-bdeps=y option is not required in many * situations. Refer to the emerge manual page (run `man emerge`) * for more information about --with-bdeps. * * Also, note that it may be necessary to manually uninstall * packages that no longer exist in the repository, since it may not * be possible to satisfy their dependencies. mih ~ # emerge --info Portage 3.0.41 (python 3.10.9-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.1, gcc-12, glibc-2.36-r6, 6.1.1-gentoo Yeah, I'm confused as well. There wasn't any explanation in the commit message either or a tagged bug.
I do not run dovecot against openssl-3 and INSTALL docs or configure.ac do not look for openssl-1.1 but - tests fail against openssl-3 - upstream says openssl-3 support will be provided in dovecot-2.4: https://dovecot.markmail.org/message/i6eezuex6cmzkuop Are you sure that you are not running into failures with openssl-3? That commit can be reverted but I am not sure if that is the correct course of action.

Ill be honest im not using dovecot much, its for my home server only and nothing critical... it compiles fine and im using it as imaps for (mostly) my webmail client and together with postfix for dovecot-sasl, for what im using it it works, if it works in all conditions, i dont know.
Is there any info when they intend to release 2.4? I mean, i can edit my local ebuilds until then, but probably im not alone...

Added patch from debian for openssl-3. The patch looks innocent enough and tests pass. But I cannot really test. Let me know if you encounter any problems. Closing
