Description Jay Faulkner 2022-11-11 00:11:35 UTC
When running obs-studio 28.1.2, as soon as I attempt to start streaming to an RTMP output source, such as Youtube, I get the following error and OBS crashes:

obs: symbol lookup error: /usr//lib64/obs-plugins/obs-outputs.so: undefined symbol: RTMP_LogSetCallback

This only occurs *when attempting to start an RTMP stream* (Youtube in my case). It is not reproducible in any way without hitting "Start Streaming" AFAICT.

Rolling back to 27.2.4-r1 removes the error. Although RTMP streaming still doesn't work for unspecified reasons (it disconnects quickly). I'm not convinced that failure is a bug in the package; and if so, it's certainly not *this* bug.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch OBS Studio
2. Configure a Youtube RTMP output stream
3. Start Streaming
Actual Results:
obs: symbol lookup error: /usr//lib64/obs-plugins/obs-outputs.so: undefined symbol: RTMP_LogSetCallback

and OBS crashes

Expected Results:
OBS starts streaming and does not crash.

I also have media-video/obs-vkcapture-1.2.0 installed; but I'm almost certain that will not be related.

Comment 1 Jay Faulkner 2022-11-11 00:29:10 UTC
Adding +librtmp to ffmpeg changes the error I get to:

obs: symbol lookup error: /usr//lib64/obs-plugins/obs-outputs.so: undefined symbol: RTMP_TLS_Free
Comment 2 Jay Faulkner 2022-11-11 00:42:41 UTC
I think the previous improvement might have only been because it pulled in media-video/rtmpdump
Comment 3 Ionen Wolkens gentoo-dev 2022-11-11 01:23:31 UTC
obs-studio bundles its own librtmp, unsure why rtmpdump or ffmpeg[librtmp] would change anything

e.g. both functions are defined at:
plugins/obs-outputs/librtmp/log.c:void RTMP_LogSetCallback(RTMP_LogCallback *cbp)
plugins/obs-outputs/librtmp/rtmp.c:RTMP_TLS_Free(RTMP *r) {

Not that I looked too deep into this, maybe it didn't get used (haven't tried to reproduce).
Comment 4 Ionen Wolkens gentoo-dev 2022-11-11 01:29:34 UTC
ftr, you didn't build obs-studio with USE=-ssl right? (this changes rtmp paths a bit and it's probably not very much tested).

I'd assume not given you have ssl in global USE, but asking in case.
Comment 5 Jay Faulkner 2022-11-11 01:30:17 UTC
28.1.2(04:27:36 PM 11/10/2022)(alsa browser lua pipewire pulseaudio python ssl truetype v4l vlc wayland -decklink -fdk -jack -nvenc -qt6 -speex -websocket LUA_SINGLE_TARGET="luajit" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python3_10 -python3_8 -python3_9 -python3_11")
Comment 6 Jay Faulkner 2022-11-11 01:30:51 UTC
I'll use the new information about it bundling it's own librtmp to try and dig this further.
Comment 7 Ionen Wolkens gentoo-dev 2022-11-11 02:10:13 UTC
Had asked back on the PR why the "ON OFF" with RTMPS but think I see why now :|

Rather than a boolean check, it's doing that:

if(ENABLE_RTMPS STREQUAL "AUTO" OR ENABLE_RTMPS STREQUAL "ON")

Aka checks for exactly "ON" so RTMPS is not being enabled right now with =yes

media-video/obs-studio: Fix usex SSL to use ON/OFF

This fixes the issue where RTMPS streaming would cause crashes.

    literal comparison rather than evaluating...)

Oh, heh, I guess I forgot more about that than I thought.

Thanks!
