Created attachment 827683 [details] pgo tests It compiles the first stage with no issues, then it starts the PGO tests, but they somehow all fail (see attachment), and eventually it just hangs with no error messages after > Run 3/3 failed: AttributeError("'SpreadSheet' object has no attribute 'driver'") I left it there for an hour just to be sure, but there was nothing in `htop`. So I Ctrl-C it, and then restarted with `ebuild ... merge`. The result was the same. chromium_profiler.py hangs in the `ps` output (see the other attachment), but doesn't seem to do anything.

That didn't help, the tests are still failing in the exact same way, and stopping on that SpreadSheet thing. And I checked, it downloaded chromium-profiler-0.2 and everything. Not sure what's going on there.

I'm starting to think that something really basic not working out for chromium. I think it's just crashing on start.
I kept the build-tree this time around, though. ;-)
Could it be something as simple as /dev/shm not being large enough? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50642308/webdriverexception-unknown-error-devtoolsactiveport-file-doesnt-exist-while-t
There's something interesting: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/temp/tmpqcw4r4jg/chrome_debug.log 370/370 100% [217:235:1111/104603.447728:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types a re "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [217:235:1111/104603.447812:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types a re "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") Is the Xvfb not starting? Or is chromium being pointed to it incorrectly? That looks like a lead.
But then, not all tests refuse to run. Sometimes it manages to collect something: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/temp/tmpkimahuu3 # ls child_pool-1.profraw localhost-221.profdata localhost-247.profdata Are we like having a portage sandboxing problem here?
> Is the Xvfb not starting? Or is chromium being pointed to it incorrectly? > That looks like a lead. More precisely, looks like it wants to have dbus.
(In reply to Michael from comment #14) > > Is the Xvfb not starting? Or is chromium being pointed to it incorrectly? > > That looks like a lead. > > More precisely, looks like it wants to have dbus. It is possible. Can you try enabling system dbus, with rc-service dbus start and then trigger the PGOing?
Not that simple. :-) DBUS has been running all that time: /etc/init.d/dbus status * status: started I'm hanging out in KDE Plasma here, I'd notice if it weren't working. But maybe the headless sandboxed chromium can't get to it from the portage tmpdir?
Like, for example, because of that: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/temp/environment declare -x ENV_UNSET="CARGO_HOME DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS ..........
Things get weirder Running case webrtc_cases.MultiplePeerConnections again ^CProcess Process-18: Process Process-17: Process Process-16: Process Process-19: Process Process-20: Process Process-22: Process Process-11: Process Process-13: Process Process-23: Process Process-21: Process Process-12: Process Process-6: Process Process-3: Process Process-15: Process Process-10: Process Process-7: Process Process-9: Process Process-5: Process Process-4: Process Process-2: sandbox:stop caught signal 2 in pid 4 Process Process-8: Process Process-14: Process Process-1: Task was destroyed but it is pending! That particular test was crashing on previous runs, but this time it ran. Unfortunately that was exactly the time I decided to Ctrl+C it. But the clue is, it's not determined, it's sort of random.
Or, maybe _because_ I Ctrl+C-ed it?
So, I had yet another bright idea, to just start it and see what happens: # /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/work/chromium-107.0.5304.87/out/Release/chrome --no-sandbox [8591:8612:1114/173134.122642:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8612:1114/173134.122819:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8591:1114/173134.126462:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8591:1114/173134.126480:ERROR:kwallet_dbus.cc(100)] Error contacting kwalletd (isEnabled) [8591:8591:1114/173134.126514:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8591:1114/173134.126520:ERROR:kwallet_dbus.cc(72)] Error contacting klauncher to start kwalletd [8591:8591:1114/173134.126536:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8591:1114/173134.126540:ERROR:kwallet_dbus.cc(418)] Error contacting kwalletd (close) Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified [8622:8622:1114/173134.134691:ERROR:egl_util.cc(44)] Failed to load GLES library: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/work/chromium-107.0.5304.87/out/Release/libGLESv2.so: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/work/chromium-107.0.5304.87/out/Release/libGLESv2.so: невозможно открыть разделяемый объектный файл: Отказано в доступе [8622:8622:1114/173134.136874:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(186)] Exiting GPU process due to errors during initialization [8591:8612:1114/173134.164234:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8612:1114/173134.164327:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8612:1114/173134.256337:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") [8591:8612:1114/173134.256372:ERROR:bus.cc(399)] Failed to connect to the bus: Could not parse server address: Unknown address type (examples of valid types are "tcp" and on UNIX "unix") Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified [8680:8680:1114/173134.615050:ERROR:egl_util.cc(44)] Failed to load GLES library: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/work/chromium-107.0.5304.87/out/Release/libGLESv2.so: /var/tmp/notmpfs/portage/www-client/chromium-107.0.5304.87/work/chromium-107.0.5304.87/out/Release/libGLESv2.so: невозможно открыть разделяемый объектный файл: Отказано в доступе [8680:8680:1114/173134.618521:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(186)] Exiting GPU process due to errors during initialization Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified [8693:8693:1114/173134.923498:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(537)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled, ANGLE is [8693:8699:1114/173134.928528:ERROR:x11_software_bitmap_presenter.cc(142)] XGetWindowAttributes failed for window 98566147 LLVM Profile Note: Profile data not written to file: already written. So, DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS= was a complete red herring. It should be unset, just like it is, so chromium doesn't try to use dbus. And GLES was simply a permission problem. I started it with `sudo -u portage` (yes, I have strange ideas sometimes), and it went away. Now, the new brilliant idea is this: [1114/190741.536410:ERROR:kwallet_dbus.cc(100)] Error contacting kwalletd (isEnabled) It's trying to get to my wallet, and failing. To get past that it needs --password-store=basic and maybe tests don't pass it. Is there an easy way to test that theory?

In the ebuild, in function chromium_profile(), after the line --add-arg no-sandbox --add-arg disable-dev-shm-usage \ add the line --add-arg password-store=basic \ (don't forget the backslash at the end of the line).
Yeah, that didn't do anything, but I noticed that the last test on which I Ctrl+C it, runs and even produces some profiling data. So, that's really strange.
Does chromium-profiler work outside virtualx? Unpack the chromium-profiler to /tmp, and run with installed, working chromium (compiled without pgo USE flag), with command python3 ./chromium_profiler.py \ --chrome-executable /usr/lib64/chromium-browser/chrome \ --chromedriver-executable /usr/lib64/chromium-browser/chromedriver \ --add-arg no-sandbox --add-arg disable-dev-shm-usage Does this start executing the use cases?
Yes! It absolutely does run!

I made a tarball, excluding /etc/shadow and /home, you'll have to supply your own. But it includes the build-tree, which will probably save you a couple of hours. I'm ready to fire up a magnet link in torrents, or just an http-server. Can I PM you on IRC or something?
Still affected on chromium-108.
Here's another idea. Right before I decided to try PGO, I moved my system to a new SSD and I might've messed it up slightly, by forgetting to pass --xattrs. So CAPS and other xattrs might be lost somewhere. The only thing I found that was actualy broken was the screenlocker, quickly fixed by rebuilding PAM. I could take the shotgun approach and just --emptytree the entire system. It'd take 15 hours, but oh well, my own fault. The question I have is what do you think are the chances that xattrs on something might somehow be relevant to anything here on a non-hardened system?
How's this looking with modern Chromium? I've heard anecdotally that PGO seems to work.

I tried building 131.0.6778.85 after unmasking USE=pgo, and it hangs at the same thing mentioned in the original bug report (Run 3/3 failed: AttributeError("'SpreadSheet' object has no attribute 'driver'").
