When using gentoo-kernel-bin-5.15.72 the kernel does not correctly detect the microphone on the headset and no audio is recorded from it. When connecting the headset to the audio jack, already there is no option to select the microphone (the usual Gnome dialog asking what you just connected, microphone is missing, just headphones/headset possible). When I select the headset option, I can choose the headset microphone as audio input, but no sound is recorded. Both in gnome-settings (the bar above does not turn red at all) and in a video conference call nobody can hear me. This is a regression, booting into the previous gentoo-kernel-bin-5.15.69 restores the headset to working condition. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: No audio from a connected headset is recorded Expected Results: The microphone on the headset works normally.
For now, I'm going to restore .69, .70 and .71. I'd appreciate if you could test the interim versions to determine which one introduced the problem.

There's been 5.15.73 released today. I'm building new binary packages now, and I should push them in 2-3 hours. I see that there were some audio-related fixes there so perhaps that one would be worth testing too.
Thank you for restoring these version. Going down from -72, -71 is broken too, -70 works. So the problem was introduced in version 5.15.71.
I will also test -73 once it is available in tree.
I've just pushed .73. If you're not using git, it will take some time before it propagates.
5.15.73 is unfortunately equally broken here. Only -70 and below work.
@kernel, this doesn't seem to be specific to dist-kernels. Could you assist? I suspect bisect will probably be necessary.
You choices 1. Test the latest 6.0.X kernel 2. Test the latest 5.19.X kernel 3. Do a git bisect 4. report upstream Let us know the results if you find the time to do 1,2 and 3
2. 5.19.15 -> also broken
Created attachment 824303 [details] Git bisect log file I finally found the time for bisecting the regression, this is the culprit: a963fe6d0eb6ef0a15b3aade7c186cd5bb7bd01f is the first bad commit commit a963fe6d0eb6ef0a15b3aade7c186cd5bb7bd01f Author: Callum Osmotherly <callum.osmotherly@gmail.com> Date: Thu Sep 15 22:36:08 2022 +0930 ALSA: hda/realtek: Enable 4-speaker output Dell Precision 5530 laptop commit 1885ff13d4c42910b37a0e3f7c2f182520f4eed1 upstream. Just as with the 5570 (and the other Dell laptops), this enables the two subwoofer speakers on the Dell Precision 5530 together with the main ones, significantly increasing the audio quality. I've tested this myself on a 5530 and can confirm it's working as expected.
