This is just a missing header: checking for cuda.h... no configure: error: required header file missing Does anyone know what package should provide it? For reference, we currently have for gmp-ecm, DEPEND="dev-libs/gmp:= cuda? ( dev-util/nvidia-cuda-toolkit x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers ) "
At least nvidia-cuda-toolkit provides it, according to portagefilelist.de. The problem with that is that it's amd64-only. I tried installing nvidia-drivers package and it doesn't seem to come with cuda.h installed, at least with default USE flags. So I don't know, has it been dropped from nvidia-drivers...?
There is no reason for cuda.h to come with nvidia-drivers in my opinion. It is a separate functionality built on top of it.
Another question: has anyone succesfully installed the package with +cuda? Because apparently you'd _really_ need to use cuda.eclass with sandbox predicts etc to get it to work. Courtesy of ionen, who most likely has nvidia-drivers/cuda properly configured: configure: Using cuda.h from /opt/cuda/include checking for cuda.h... yes checking that CUDA Toolkit version is at least 3.0... (11.7) yes configure: Using CUDA dynamic library from /opt/cuda/lib64 checking for cuInit in -lcuda... yes checking that CUDA Toolkit version and runtime version are the same... Could not get runtime version Error msg: no CUDA-capable device is detected no configure: error: 'cuda.h' and 'cudart' library have different versions, you have to reinstall CUDA properly, or use the --with-cuda parameter to tell configure the path to the CUDA library and header you want to use
This at least needed e.g. --with-cuda="${ESYSROOT}"/opt/cuda (to find the header), cuda_add_sandbox (or else had /dev/nvidiactl sandbox violation), and still didn't work as shown above -- but haven't looked further. My suggestion is to omit support if can't test it, if someone want this hopefully they'll offer a PR with a working solution.
I do not have cuda on any of my machines. The ones that have nvidia cards are likely too old. I have really old stuff :) so I cannot test cuda stuff.

I second this take. Adding cuda support involves more than just adding a package to DEPEND/RDEPEND.
