I am the author of ICARUS VMPSd, a VLAN Management Policy Server (VMPS) daemon that queries a MySQL backend to fulfill VLAN Query Protocol (VQP) requests.  I have written an ebuild to simplify installation of ICARUS VMPSd on Gentoo Linux.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
emerge icarus-vmpsd


Expected Results:  
ICARUS VMPSd is merged.

Now uses java-config for locating jars and java vm.  Tested and working.

I would be more than happy to maintain this ebuild in Portage, but I don't know what Gentoo's policies are on who can add stuff to the Portage tree.
