Comment 2 Henning Schild 2022-07-08 21:01:08 UTC
Is this a report from a person who cares to use the package, or again just a bot to complain about "very hard to fix" upstream/binary-only issues?

We have several open issues about that whole HdxRtcEngine story. This is about microsoft teams optimizations related to media-plugins/hdx-realtime-media-engine. A very questionable combination of a very questionable feature, where binaries in icaclient seem to be living in the "wrong package". All issues that are very hard to solve in a ... what is really -bin and a total lack of upstream insights or support.

I will wait for feedback from a real person with a real need, explaining whether microsoft teams additions are needed. If there is no real need the solution will be to simply drop !amd64 and be done with it.

Sorry, but the nature of the package(s) coming as binary-only and the legacy "i386/i686" makes it very hard to cater. Not to mention the fact that access to a server is by the nature very hard. I happen to have access to one server with an amd64 client ... not more. An i686 client would be hard for me to get working.

If you come with a patch that works for you (i686), i will be happy to check it works for me (amd64). We will have to see how that works with media-plugins/hdx-realtime-media-engine for amd64 and i686.

Without a real need and a patch, i will drop i686 eventually and ignore this one.

In case 5836000@gmail.com is someone from citrix, please reach out to me. I was trying to get your attention on several channels.

gentoo and other distros (i.e. arch) could really use some support to help citrix ship the clients to many users and improve the quality of those bianry-only packages
If you are "citrix" you fail to even get the most mainstream combination of "ubuntu-amd64" working, so do not complain about "gentoo-i686".

in case you are a real gentoo user, i will try my best but will need your help!
Comment 4 5836000 2022-07-10 16:06:19 UTC
Hi Henning. If it is hard to fix , then you can close this bug.
net-misc/icaclient-21.8.0.40 is working fine.
Thanks for your effort
Comment 5 Henning Schild 2022-07-10 18:07:33 UTC
Not sure how hard it will be, with someone around to help testing i guess it should be ok.

Staying on that old version is not a good solution. We already have 22.07 coming up, but that also lacks that one binary. And probably can not work with that hdx plugin.
Maybe it is just a matter of not installing that one file on 32bit. You could try locally modifying that ebuild and see if that is the only thing missing, and whether it will work.
Comment 6 Henning Schild 2022-07-10 19:53:05 UTC
Those ebuilds keep a list of files to install from the tarball, and skip installing a few of them.

Starting from 22.5 the list for x64 contains at least that one file not found in x86.

I could not find why the maintainer(s) before me opted for installing only parts of what upstream ships. That seems just error prone and can cause issues like this one.

When i looked at another issues around hdx i came across a message in hdxcheck.sh

"hdxcheck.sh script is deprecated. Run the workspacecheck.sh script instead."

That is a script not installed as well, where it likely should be.

I will try to solve this with simply installing everything inside the tarball, without a list of files to maintain. Maybe i will learn that way why that list was manually maintained, which obviously is not the best idea.

    net-misc/icaclient: package all utils

We used to keep a list of files to actually package and we did change
    permission bits on them.
Doing that is just error prone and means more maintenance work. Plus the
list is different across x86 and x86_64.

So now we ship it all and only apply one fix for one binary which has
incorrect permission bits in that upstream package.

In addition we might see more warnings on "Unresolved soname". We will
have to see how to deal with those. But taking the upstream binary
bundle apart and only deploying bits is just work which means more work
    and potential for mistakes.
