After the update to OpenLDAP 2.6, the service (interestingly, only sometimes) fails to start with the following kind of error: slapd.service: Got notification message from PID 2065, but reception only permitted for main PID 2063 Seems like the service file needs to add NotifyAccess=all. I added that via drop-in file, and the service is running fine now.
I also encountered this issue and am currently using the same workaround. Version is 2.6.3-r3.
