I can't get install-arm64-minimal-20220417T235403Z.iso to boot on a Raspberry Pi3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. dd the install iso to a usb stick 2. insert usb stick in Pi3 3. power on I was happy to see the new install iso for arm64. But I can't make it work. I can find no information about it. I find the partitioning odd: Disk install-arm64-minimal-20220417T235403Z.iso: 453.3 MiB, 475324416 bytes, 928368 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: gpt Disk identifier: 31C31C76-5F41-465F-A08C-6DFA22FD5836 Device Start End Sectors Size Type install-arm64-minimal-20220417T235403Z.iso1 64 271 208 104K Microsof install-arm64-minimal-20220417T235403Z.iso2 272 6031 5760 2.8M EFI Syst install-arm64-minimal-20220417T235403Z.iso3 6032 928303 922272 450.3M Microsof Does the Raspberry Pi 3 even support UEfI with the factory firmware? Are there instructions on this somewhere? Many the download page should point to them?
I can't speak for the rest but I don't think any of the Pis support UEFI out of the box. I haven't tried our new arm64 install media yet on my box which _does_ support UEFI though, but I think gyakovlev (who made them) did on his Pinebook Pro. There's some options here to install w/o install CD (know this doesn't help your problem, but might be a useful workaround): https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi. I usually do this (it's based on my guide) because it's easiest: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi/ARM64_in_place_installation.
Hello again Sam! I'm very familiar with arm32 and arm64 installs, I was just hoping for a working stage 4, like the new install iso might be. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi/ARM64_in_place_installation. Specifically says Pi4. I need Pi3. And it is not even all Gentoo: ``` user $sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade user $sudo reboot ``` sudo and apt? Your suggestion of this looks good: https://github.com/GenPi64/gentoo-on-rpi-64bit Will try. But the essenece of the bug, is to get the arm64 iso documented.
yeah it only boots on pure EFI systems and uses regular non-PI kernel. your best bet is to boot something else and use that to install stage3. the detailed arm64 download page has an EFI tag next to iso download link. but it's not shown on main download page that lists most common downloads.
The bug has been referenced in the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/sites/www.git/commit/?id=a6ab69ff7e4c917058a308f34d612fa54d44854b commit a6ab69ff7e4c917058a308f34d612fa54d44854b Author: Georgy Yakovlev <gyakovlev@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2022-09-19 02:19:31 +0000 Commit: Sam James <sam@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2022-09-19 02:21:16 +0000 arm64: tag main page arm64 iso link as EFI advanced page already has this tag. ^ this will help a bit and make it more consistent with advanced download page, but we need a more detailed infobox for it I think, so leaving it open.
