Installation of media-gfx/freecad-0.19.4 makes no visible menu entry in Xfce4 applications menu. After a quick look at the filesystem, no FreeCAD related .desktop file exists in /usr/share/applications/. Such a file exists in other distributions (https://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/openmandriva/4.3/x86_64/unsupported/testing/freecad-0.19.4-0.20220205.6.x86_64.html: /usr/share/applications/freecad.desktop) which suggests a miss. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge media-gfx/freecad-0.19.4 2. (Optionally restarts the computer) 3. Search for FreeCAD in the applications menu. Actual Results: No FreeCAD menu entry. Expected Results: FreeCAD menu entry visible. Please note that I have tested it in an Xfce4 desktop environment only. Workaround: launch FreeCAD from the terminal.

The desktop file is probably named org.freecadweb.FreeCAD.desktop. Could you please check whether you have that file?
I confirm that /usr/lib64/freecad/share/applications/org.freecadweb.FreeCAD.desktop is delivered by the installation. But a few hints make me think another desktop entry is missing: 1. freedesktop specification mentions a standard path for system-wide storage in /usr/local/share/applications/ or /usr/share/applications/ (c.f. XDG_DATA_DIRS env variable) https://specifications.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html#desktop-file-id; 2. All my applications visible in the apps menu have an entry in /usr/share/applications/; 3. Other Linux distributions both have /usr/lib64/freecad/share/applications/org.freecadweb.FreeCAD.desktop and /usr/share/applications/freecad.desktop delivered. /usr/share/applications/freecad.desktop is probably a copy or symlink to /usr/lib64/freecad/share/applications/org.freecadweb.FreeCAD.desktop? I wonder, because I have the file in /usr/share/applications, but I have the live ebuild installed. The complete share folder within /usr/lib64/freecad should get moved to /usr in src_install. Need to check the ebuild for 0.19.4 if this is not going to happen.
9999 ebuild has the following line in src_install() while 0.19.4 does not: mv "${ED}"/usr/$(get_libdir)/${PN}/share/* "${ED}"/usr/share || die "failed to move shared resources" Which may explain the issue.
I now remember why the line isn't in 0.19.4. For whatever reason, moving the files caused an error, when I bumped the package, so I removed the line and later probably forgot to further investigate and place it in again. It now seems to work however, at least on the test I ran.
