This is indeed a bug upstream which was fixed by this pull request:
https://github.com/root-project/root/pull/10073

This only happens if you build ROOT inside a hidden directory. There's a patch release coming next week with a fix for this, so given the low severity, I will just wait for that and bump the version to include the fix.

No problem. It took a bit longer than expected due to some critical bugs that needed fixing, but it was finally released yesterday in the evening.
