Currently the latest version of Win4Lin in portage is 5.1.1. To use Win4Lin with a 2.6 kernel, you need Win4Lin 5.1.10 or higher, meaning that it's currently not possible for Gentoo's Win4Lin users to migrate to a 2.6 kernel (not even using ~x86). It'd be great, if this could be addressed, especially since Gentoo is going to make 2.6 the default kernel very soon. BTW: The current Win4Lin ebuilds show the follwing einfo when merging "Remember you need a kernel patched like win4lin-sources or gs-sources." However, there are no gs-sources anymore. :)

I raised Bug 96139 which has been marked as a dupe of this, but the issue of 2.6 compatibility (raised by this bug) has been solved by using the current Win4Lin-5.5.18c-d. My issue is the same as bug 84420 which was also marked resolved/dupe. The current gentoo binaries are Win4Lin-5.5.18c-d, the netraverse current binaries are Win4Lin-5.5.20e-d which have major and required fixes. Why the win4lin version number is 5.1.1, I'm not sure. Anyone working on this? Any updates? TIA
So you all know seems bass has stated that he does not have time to maintain the win4lin sources I will do my best to get it readded as soon as possible. I will also request his permission to update the ebuild for all fixes that are needed.
why not create an ebuild to patch the kernel installed? can be a best solution IMHO

thanks for you work :) so after all this time trying to contact with netraverse to update our serial numbers for testing i dont have any reply. Netraverse dont support this ebuild more. If you want you can use the w4l installer is not so bad :) so the remove will be cancelled if you have a good point to mantain the ebuild in gentoo. w4l is now hardmasked and i will remove it in 30 days. regards
