Since Gentoo installs X cursors into /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11 and not into /usr/share/icons/THEME/cursors they are not available in Wayland. Which is especially a problem with gtk4 apps under Wayland. They try use the Adwaita cursor theme and fall back to a cursor with a significant offset and without any cursor variants like the resize arrows. This makes gtk4 nearly unusable under Wayland. I see that the package is under x11-themes and might not care about Wayland but the cursor theme is definitely missing and could be easily provided by this package. We were waiting for pieces to get fixed but, for now, it has turned into never ending disputed among different upstreams and breakage being kept for Gnome 42 cycle affecting many different apps. We follow Debian for now until this is better solved in the future in one way on another. Also keep upstream default location for cursor themes. Gentoo location is kept for backwards compatibility but that location is highly Gentoo specific. As a consequence, upstreams keep breaking in several ways and not fixing their apps to honour our PATH.
