Description:
BASE is the Basic Analysis and Security Engine. It is based on the code from the Analysis Console for Intrusion Databases (ACID) project. This application provides a web front-end to query and analyze the alerts coming from a SNORT IDS system.

Any reason to depend on snort and have you tested it with the latest base release?

It relies on Snort because of the Snort DB. 

From the BASE web page: "This application provides a web front-end to query and
analyze the alerts coming from a SNORT IDS system."

Base 1.0.1 was current when this e-build was submitted four months ago.

The thing is that BASE does _not_ need Snort locally installed to function. It
can just as well use a remotely available Snort DB.

base is now in our unofficial overlay:
http://svn.gnqs.org/projects/gentoo-webapps-overlay/browser

Please note that the overlay is unofficial, not a Gentoo project, and not
supported. It is intended to provide easier access to new web applications.
