In the current version (dev-tex/pgf-3.1.5b), the shading does not work with xelatex. Created attachment 739581 [details] Ebuild for dev-tex/pgf version 3.1.9a Here my ebuild for the latest (3.1.9a) version.
I tested this successfully under TeXLive 2021 with the examples from the aforementioned pgf issues on github and with my own problem I had. I also checked that the example from bug 700056 does now work although my ebuild does not remove version-for-dvisvgm/en/color.cfg anymore. Note that the new ebuild doesn't need the ttps://dev.gentoo.org/~zlogene/distfiles/${CATEGORY}/${PN}/${P}-revisioned.xz anymore because it now calls scripts/pgf/pgfrevisionfile.sh to create the pgf.revision.tex file.
