Hello, My KDE WM started two volume controls after recent upgrade: kde-apps/kmix kde-plasma/plasma-pa I installed kmix manually (it is also getting pulled by kde-apps/kdemultimedia-meta if installed), plasma-pa is pulled by kde-plasma/plasma-meta[pulseaudio] Could you add "either" condition in kde-plasma/plasma-meta, something like: pulseaudio? ( || ( kde-plasma/plasma-pa kde-apps/kmix[pulseaudio] ) ) Thanks emerge --info Portage 3.0.18 (python 3.9.4-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.1/hardened, gcc-10.2.0, glibc-2.32-r7, 5.12.0-gentoo x86_64) Possible, but KDE ultimately recommends plasma-pa for pulseaudio and kmix is nothing but a legacy mixer at this point. kmix is not in your system tray unless you started it manually, once, anyway, you can close it just as well.
Im probably very conservative, but i prefer kmix really. It's not so bulky and all levels are positioned vertically
The way I see it, $summary describes a minor runtime inconvenience. This is easily solved by setting "Audio Volume" to "Disabled" via System Tray Settings -> Entries.
To elaborate further: kde-plasma/plasma-meta is bound to favor plasma-pa, as per your example: || ( kde-plasma/plasma-pa kde-apps/kmix[pulseaudio] ) When installing kde-apps/kdemultimedia-meta after Plasma, which I would expect is the natural order, kmix still ends up being installed, unless the ebuild would do the same as plasma-meta; but plasma-pa is useless without Plasma, and suddenly we begin blurring the lines. Existing plasma-pa users who have never started kmix, thus are unaware of the situation, may suddenly end up with no audio volume control in their systray after a --depclean. So, while the suggested change takes care of your usecase, it leads to other problems. What else could we do: in kmix' pkg_postinst(), if use pulseaudio && has_version kde-plasma/plasma-pa && elog "do this if you prefer kmix over Plasma's audio volume controls..."
