graphicsmagick works fine (has no USE=xml), but can indeed reproduce with imagemagick[-xml]
The problem is, that virtual/imagemagick-tools has no xml USE flag. media-gfx/graphicsmagick has no xml USE flag, either. Actually I do not think that this is a problem with the BOINC dependencies, but with the imagemagick USE combination of USE="tiff -xml" being allowed. Obviously this doesn't work, at least if you want to convert TIFF to something else. @Andreas : What do you think?
I just re-merged imagemagick with USE="-svg -xml" and then tried to install boinc-7.14.2: ======== convert: Incorrect value for "RichTIFFIPTC"; tag ignored. `TIFFFetchNormalTag' @ warning/tiff.c/TIFFWarnings/1046. convert: delegate library support not built-in '/data/portage/portage/sci-misc/boinc-7.14.2/distdir/boinc.tif' (XML) @ error/profile.c/ValidateXMPProfile/1927. convert: Incorrect value for "RichTIFFIPTC"; tag ignored. `TIFFFetchNormalTag' @ warning/tiff.c/TIFFWarnings/1046. ======== Actually the PNG is correctly converted, also convert exits with return code 1. I have used boinc-7.14.2 to prove, that this isn't something that just popped up due to the boinc version bump. sci-misc/boinc is not to be blamed at all. However, I have tested convert down to media-gfx/imagemagick-6.9.11.46 and they all end up with a perfectly rendered PNG but also return status code 1. This has never worked with USE="-xml" at all. Ideas: 1) convert exiting with status 1 although it _has_ converted successfully might be a bug and might be worth sending upstream. 2) Meanwhile imagemagick should not be allowed to be merged with USE="tiff -xml". 3) Alternatively, the "|| die" can be dropped out of the boinc ebuild, if we assume, that convert will _always_ succeed.
Confirmed just now for emerging boinc: Fails as shown for media-gfx/imagemagick-7.0.10.58 with "tiff -xml"; Succeeds when using "tiff xml". Thanks for this bug note showing the fix/workaround. Regards, Martin
The bug has been closed via the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=5ae54d1e747b699aef71cd549555968db56a11e2 commit 5ae54d1e747b699aef71cd549555968db56a11e2 Author: Sven Eden <sven.eden@prydeworx.com> AuthorDate: 2021-04-24 12:51:30 +0000 Commit: David Seifert <soap@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2021-04-24 12:51:30 +0000 sci-misc/boinc: Fix installation with imagemagick[-xml] If imagemagick is installed with USE="-xml" when installing boinc with USE="X", the process off creating png icons using `convert` fails with the following messages: ======== convert: Incorrect value for "RichTIFFIPTC"; tag ignored. `TIFFFetchNormalTag' @ warning/tiff.c/TIFFWarnings/1046. convert: delegate library support not built-in '/data/portage/portage/sci-misc/boinc-7.14.2/distdir/boinc.tif' (XML) @ error/profile.c/ValidateXMPProfile/1927. convert: Incorrect value for "RichTIFFIPTC"; tag ignored. `TIFFFetchNormalTag' @ warning/tiff.c/TIFFWarnings/1046. ======== Actually these are just warnings from libtiff, and the conversion succeeds. There is no problem with the resulting PNGs. This commit switches the check'n'fail from the `convert` command to the `newicon` command, so we only fail if the target PNG really could not be created. Also add some minor fixes to the ebuild.
