Is this fixed on udev 051?
A quick test with udev 054 shows that /dev/ppp isn't there, yet.
This bug is not fixed. Neither udev-45, udev-54, creates /dev/ppp Have to manually: "mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0" to get ppp to work using pon.
Is the ppp module loaded already? Or are you creating the node, accessing the node, and then having the kernel load the module? If so, yes, you will have to do it by hand.
adding ppp_generic to kernel-2.6 works fine here, the /dev/ppp node gets created.

/dev/ppp can also be created by modprobing ppp_generic instead of mknoding it. It would be more convenient if the ppp_generic module were loaded automatically.

You have to load the ppp module before the /dev/ppp node is created. If you want it autoloaded, put it in the /etc/modules.autoload.d/ directory.

My Internat-Gateway bootet after emerging udev: ppp_generic was loaded! /dev/ppp didn't exist The module "microcode" was loaded too. /dev/cpu/microcode wasn't created either.
I now have ppp_generic on top of my autoload-list. Still no /dev/ppp. On a second gentoo-install, modprobeing ppp_generic creates /dev/ppp. On my internet-gateway, it doesn't - for some reason. Which udev-rule is responsible for creating /dev/ppp? Which swtichtes can be turned on/off to track the problem down? Thx Sven BTW: please reopen the bug! i can't, since i'm not the owner.
