was working before, i guess it is a problem related to profile switch some weeks ago, also tried to compile media-video/nvidia-video-codec to no avail

Gave ffmpeg's nvenc a quick try (which autoloads the nvidia_uvm module) and it works again, so I believe it should be fine with obs too (didn't try).
tried going back to 5.8.18, and obs-studio runs again (records). i will try the suggested solution with 455.45.01 with USE=uvm later cheers
i already ran nvidia-drivers-455.28-r1 with uvm usefkag enabled. recompiled it nonetheless but obs-studio still does not run with 5.9.0. you think it would be worth a try to update to never 5.9 kernel ?
kernel 5.9.9 leads to the same problem (obs-studio not recording). so for now i just use kernel 5.8.18 thanks a lot !

The kernel 5.9.x fix from nvidia is in 455.45.01, so 455.28 won't work with any 5.9.x kernel.
