You may take a look at bug#578046 (currently, versions bump to 20.16 and to 20.19). fotoxx-20.16-documentation.patch (https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=674365) prevents the installation of compressed files (manpages, documentation) and installs metainfo files into /usr/share/metainfo rather than into /usr/share/appdata.
