I am affected by this problem too.
I have the same problem like Thomas Deutschmann on amd64. The solution to successfully compile was for me to remove dom4j-1 from JAVA_GENTOO_CLASSPATH and remove org/jaxen/dom4j in the similar way like ripping xom in jaxen-1.1.6-r1.ebuild
