The latest gDesklets in portage crashes with the latest versions of all of its dependencies (pyORBit and gnome-python I believe). I don't know why it crashes. It would be nice if it worked, or if the ebuild downgraded the packages it depends on so it would work (even if the sensors are older). I haven't tried the stuff associated with bug 60282, but I'll see. If it starts working, I'll let you know. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
please provide the output of `emerge info` and the actual versions of the packages you are using. It would also be helpful if you could get a trace or any sort of error, since this description doesn't help any.
Sorry. This was not working two days ago. I originally thought it was operator failure, and then someone mentioned today in #gentoo that they couldn't get gDesklets working, so I filed this thinking I'm not the only one. Anyways, it appears to be functioning now, for me. Although, the following error is occuring now (and it wasn't before when it was crashing): Could not connect to gnome-session. GNOME session management will not be available for this application. As far as I can remember, I've only updated Nautilus since then. And every display that was causing crashing seems to be working now. So, sorry for the erroneous bug report. :(
No problem, the session management has changed in 0.31.1, i'll need to look more into it.
I have emerged gdesklets, and emerged some desklet (desklet-calendar,desklet-clock,desklet-goodweather), but all these displays cause gdesklet crashing. # emerge info Portage 2.0.51-r15 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.4.28-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.28-gentoo-r5 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1400MHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4 [2.3.4 (#1, Oct 24 2004, 10:03:47)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.8.5-r2, 1.6.3, 1.7.9, 1.4_p6, 1.9.4 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r4 virtual/os-headers: 2.4.21-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -g" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -g" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.gentoo.or.kr/ http://www.zentek-international.com/mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/Gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo cdr crypt cups encode esd f77 fam font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mozilla mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl spell ssl svga tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts xml2 xmms xv zlib video_cards_redeon" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
gDesklets is working for me now, a little bit. None of the sensors/desklets in portage work, however. I had to download them from gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org, and even then a select few work (out of LT, all I can get to work are LTRhythmbox, LTmbmon, and LTClock -- Psi doesn't work at all, and most other sensors don't either). I don't think that this is totally a Gentoo problem; I think that gDesklets 0.30 depended on a patch to a package that didn't exist or something. Becuase after a week or so after I posted this, it started working all by itself, but I did an emerge sync and emerge -u world. I can't remember exactly what was updated though. WFM now, sorta, but still needs to be looked into.
