I have applied the changes, along with addition of a dependency on libcanberra, but only to 9999 ebuild for now.

I have tried it out myself, but couldn't get any sounds - perhaps I lack some configuration.

Please let me know if the current solution works for you (including it being applied only to 9999 and not to 0.1.0). Reopen if anything is wrong.
