Description Rage <oxr463> 2020-05-09 12:05:34 UTC
Per the wiki [1], there is a developer quiz for individuals seeking to become developers that aren't interested in writing ebuilds.

> Developers who will be strictly working on infrastructure, GLSAs,
> or other non-ebuild areas of the project and will not have commit
> access to the Gentoo ebuild repository should take the developer quiz.

I originally found Project:Android back in 2016, and immediately became involved. Unfortunately, my hands were tied since I was unable to do much without becoming an "official" developer. So I attempted the ebuild quiz under my mentors suggestion, but I never got any feedback on what I got wrong. I then spoke with my mentors again and one of them suggested the non-ebuild quiz. I submitted that one as well, and even it was rejected.

In the past four years, I have been very active in the community. Some of my work includes adding search functionality to the devmanual so it is easier to use, creating a theme for the Gentoo kernel buildbot, proxy maintaining multiple packages, as well as maintaining my own personal overlay, wiki articles and improvements, bug reports, and assistance in mentoring students for the GSOC project.

This process is broken. I have been very patient, and I have submitted multiple attempts, but I am stuck. If I do everything my mentors tell me to do, then why do the recruiters reject my submissions? Why is all of this private? I woyld like to see exactly what is wrong so that I can move forward.

Hello,

There are pretty much clear two posible cases to attain a developer status:

1.) Working on the ebuilds and then request the full gentoo.git access
2.) Working on non-ebuild areas (Infra/Security)

Based on the chosen way you are supposed to pick up an appropriate quiz.
Also your mentor must provide a proof of your activity, it helps recruiters to conduct the review better by going through your contributions and indicating what potentially may be useful to discuss, and what in turn can be omited.

Specifically for your case we have talked to heroxbd twice. Both times he promised to conduct you right way, I do not quite understand why it has not happened yet (my assumption is based in this bug was created).

When we last spoke, heroxbd told me that the recruiters wanted me to re-submit an ebuild quiz. My other mentor maffblaster who works on the wiki has been trying to get me on board with the non-ebuild quiz.

So you really must fund an agreement with your mentors first. Maffblaster is working on the wiki as the infra member, while heroxbd is working on prefix and this requires him having the full access. But the quiz selection is nothing more difficult than I have explained above.
