indicator empty

After the upgrade to gnome-3.34 I noticed that brightness (and volume) indicators show either empty bar or the full bar and never something in between.

The brightness control works ok. I just don't know how far I am from min or max brightness.

The volume meter does this as well right now. I suspect it may have something to do with gnome-settings-daemon and co not being 3.34 yet. Once I get those done, and I still see issues with volume meter (I can't test brightness on my main box), it's worth investigating further.
I didn't deem this a big enough issue to delay pushing gnome-shell 3.34 to the main tree ~arch without gnome-settings-daemon and others, as the functionality at least works, just the feedback is wrong (and in case of volume meter at least, the icon does change between some percentage states, and top right menu has it/them too).

gnome-settings-daemon-3.34.1 NEWS seems to indicate that it will fix it:
