When I attempt to update arts via emerge the build fails linking libmcop.la. The attached file is the log output of the emerge of arts alone. I ran it with the command: emerge --newuse -Dv arts &>arts.log Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge --newuse -Dv arts 2. Wait for build to fail. Actual Results: Build fails. See arts.log file for full details Expected Results: Arts-1.3.1 builds. This seems the same as bug 67926, but I can't say what's the cause... maybe the recent libtool mess (bug 67692)?
Rebuilding libtool does not clear up this issue. Re-emerging libtool-1.5.2-r5 does not help arts to build.
Using gcc-3.4.3 I got arts to compile. There is still a problem. Artsd segfaults on starting. Here is the text that results from calling artsd from a konsole: bash-2.05b$ sudo artsd ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:549:(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:549:(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe loading extension from '/usr/kde/3.3/lib/libartsmidi.la' failed: /usr/kde/3.3/lib/libartsmidi.so.0: undefined symbol: _ZTv0_n32_N4Arts14StdSynthModule11autoSuspendEv MCOP ObjectManager: Could not load extension libartsmidi.la. Looks like I will need to rebuild kdemultimedia. Stand by to see what results of this rebuild.
Using gcc 3.4.3 and recompiling arts and kdemultimedia things are working. This does not solve why gcc 3.3.4 does not compile arts. Its just a work around.
Given that 3.4 is compiles things more correctly than 3.3 according to the gcc developers I don't see a reason to see out why arts doesn't compile for 3.3. So since I am happy with 3.4 I am going to close this as WONTFIX.
