nepali-fonts-1-r1.ebuild says "freedist", but I cannot find any license for this package. There is no license included in the package's tarball, and I also don't see anything in the TTF files. The initial ChangeLog entry for this package was this: +*nepali-fonts-1 (19 Jan 2004) + + 19 Jan 2004; Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org> : + Initial import. Ebuild submitted by me. + + A collection of fonts gathered from misc websites. + Note that the important site is this one: + http://www.mpp.org.np/ + They maintain the Nepali unicode font. + + You can find misc fonts that aren't so unicode friendly: + (and are included only until the above font takes over everything) + http://www.nepali.info/ + + http://www.nepalipost.com/ (links at top of page) + http://www.moics.gov.np/download/fonts.html + + These places also have fonts but are just duplicates from above: + http://ncthakur.itgo.com/download.htm + http://www.nepalhomepage.com/reference/fonts/ + http://www.nepalnews.com.np/fonts.htm I also fail to find any license info in the archived versions of these pages on archive.org (around January 2004). In summary, we don't have any indication that would allow us to redistribute these fonts. SRC_URI points to Gentoo mirrors, so we cannot mirror restrict it. Any ideas? Otherwise, I'll CC treecleaners.
Investigating a little further, the package's homepage at http://www.mpp.org.np/ redirects to http://madanpuraskar.org/ which says under "Downloads": Nepali Unicode and other software All the earlier software developed by MPP, including the Nepali Unicode Keyboard Layouts, will now be maintained and further developed by Language Technology Kendra, a non-profit sharing company, which is a collaboration between Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya(MPP), Kathmandu University, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE) and Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Linguistics(CDL). Nepali keyboard layouts and other downloads are available at www.ltk.org.np. At that new location, the only fonts I can find are at http://ltk.org.np/downloads/fonts.zip containing janaki.ttf and madan.ttf. Both fonts have a copyright notice like this (in the TTF file itself): Copyright (c) 2007 by Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya. All rights reserved. We would still not be allowed to mirror it, but there is at least an URI that is currently working. I suggest last rites, maybe that will make any users speak up. CCing treecleaners.
