Description David Flogeras 2019-10-23 15:27:13 UTC
Something fairly recent seems to have broken send/rx files over bluetooth. I usually use this through plasma's bluez integration.

After sniffing a bit around in the logs, I noticed when I tried to initiate a transfer from my laptop to my phone the following appeared in /var/log/messages

[session uid=1000 pid=20222] Activated service 'org.bluez.obex' failed: Failed to execute program org.bluez.obex: No such file or directory

I inspected (what I think is) the relevant file in /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.bluez.obex.service and it contains the following:

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.bluez.obex
Exec=@libexecdir@/obexd
SystemdService=dbus-org.bluez.obex.service

I found that if I run manually "/usr/libexec/bluetooth/obexd" that I can transfer files again. Is it possible that @libexecdir is broken? I don't know how to find out where this is defined.

Reproducible: Always

What version of net-wireless/bluez?

On my system with net-wireless/bluez-5.51 installed, org.bluez.obex.service looks like this:

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.bluez.obex
Exec=/bin/false
SystemdService=dbus-org.bluez.obex.service
Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2019-10-23 15:48:53 UTC
Oh, I see the ebuild is conditionally patching this file based on user-session support. I assume you have that disabled.
Comment 3 David Flogeras 2019-10-23 16:05:20 UTC
Yes, I'm on openrc so that is off (I assume systemd profile enabled it?)

Also, bluez-5.51
Comment 4 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2019-10-23 16:12:10 UTC
Oh, I thought you were running systemd based on the bug summary, but now I see that wasn't your fault.
Comment 5 David Flogeras 2019-10-23 16:23:04 UTC
All good. Here's emerge --info for more clarity (from one machine, multiple are affected).

Also, I tried going back to bluez-5.50 since the obex patch changed between 5.50 and 5.51, but it didn't work either. And yep, I did restart both bluez and dbus.

Finally, I tried changing:
Exec=@libexecdir@/obexd
to:
Exec=@libexecdir@/bluetooth/obexd

In case it was somehow a path thing, but that also didn't change the outcome. As I said, I don't understand @libexecdir@ semantics, but thought I'd try a hail mary.

Comment 6 Sander Sweers 2019-11-03 18:16:58 UTC
@libexecdir@ is supposed to be replaced with an actual path at build time, perhaps this has to be replaced with @pkglibexecdir@ but I don't care enough to look into it further right now.

@David, modify Exec to look like "Exec=/usr/libexec/bluetooth/obexd" and you should be good.
Comment 7 David Flogeras 2019-11-04 13:28:12 UTC
Sander, yep hand editing that worked for me here (after restarting related services of course). Thanks much for the insight.
Comment 8 Sander Sweers 2019-11-04 17:53:19 UTC
(In reply to Sander Sweers from comment #6)
> perhaps this has to be replaced with @pkglibexecdir@

Confirmed, I modified the patch and used @pkglibexecdir@ and now the path is populated correctly again.

    Also drop obsolete patch (as systemd-m4 package is going to be removed and

Please re-try with bluez-5.51-r2 to fast stabilize it (it seems to install the fixed file now in my case)

Thanks Pacho, 5.51-r2 corrects the issue for me here.
