Description Red 2019-09-22 00:19:56 UTC
x11-themes/nou-icon-theme fails to install properly with the error:

"Failed to update cache with icon /usr/share/icons/Nou"

Which is repeated in every subsequent emerge of any icon theme, and causes any future installation of an icon theme to be incomplete, and with blank icons.

In Plasma icon settings, all icons are present despite the message. However, you will no longer to be able to install an icon theme properly in the future due to this failure, and any future installed icon themes have no icons.

This was mentioned on the forum in 2017 (see URL)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install x11-themes/nou-icon-theme and notice the error message.
2. Try and install a few other icon themes and see the same error message.
Actual Results:
"Dropline NOU!" is present, while subsequently installed icon themes are present but void of icons.

Expected Results:
The icon theme, and any future icon theme, should properly install.

The also cascades with other failures along the way, such as x11-themes/nuovo-icon-theme (bug coming soon).

I have marked it as "Critical" since the bug prevents any subsequently installed icon themes from installing properly.
Comment 1 Red 2019-09-22 00:29:41 UTC
I was incorrect about future icon themes failing to install.

I was simply looking at x11-themes/nuovo-icon-theme and x11-themes/yasis-icon-theme which do not have any icons in Plasma (additional bugs will be filed).

However, the cascading error message is still present.

The title has been changed and severity lowered to "Major"

Bug 695364 is this same issue as applied to x11-themes/nuovo-icon-theme

Not sure why the cache update fails. Perhaps the index.theme files are invalid?

Despite initial confusion in my filing of this bug (see Comment #1 for a clarification and revision) this is not a duplicate, but a separate bug related to 695364.

The latest version (at this time - 09.02.08) of the package no longer has this problem.
