I have an error compiling module r8168 after switching to kernel 5.1:

Why don't trust it as soon as it has the same Manifest?
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2019-11-19 11:30:09 UTC
Other option would be to provide them in our devspace :/

It's a git repository of the sources, not a mirror of the tarballs, so the manifests would differ.

If you have this hardware, please please please take this package off my hands. I got rid of my hardware 2½ years ago.
Comment 8 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2019-12-05 07:44:35 UTC
OK, maybe I will put it in my devspace to ensure it is the same tarball I download from upstream.

One more question... how do you get informed about new versions? Should I subscribe to some mailing list or...?

Thanks :)

No great answers here. When I had the hardware, it would typically break with newer kernels and I had to hunt around for patches before they actually put out a release. Since then, users have informed me through bug reports. The web site does show version numbers and dates without having to log in though.

https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software

Failing that, you could watch the GitHub repo to see when that changes.

Sorry but I'm dropping this to maintainer-needed now.

sorry for the delay
