Version 8.0.1 is not compatible with Markdown 3.x yet, this release pins the requirement down to 2.x (until we get 3.x support done) https://github.com/getnikola/nikola/issues/3173 There is a patch/PR to make it work (only) with >=dev-python/markdown-3 https://github.com/getnikola/nikola/pull/3175 www-apps/nikola-8.0.3 is planned to be compatible with >=dev-python/markdown-3
