build.log of unbound-1.8.0
Comment 2 Thomas Deutschmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-09-14 14:16:54 UTC
Are you sure this works for you in previous versions? I debugged the problem and noticed that PKG_CONFIG is unset when systemd.m4 macro will run because "PKG_PROG_PKG_CONFIG" wasn't called (if you compile with USE=python it will work because the code to detect Python will call that macro and run before systemd.m4 macro).

But when I fix that I'll run into another build error caused by systemd includes:

"That can't be true" :)

I can reproduce failure with 1.7.3, even 1.6.x and 1.8.0.

Anyway, I will commit a fix shortly which will fix systemd detection. Let's see if unbound will then fail to compile for you due to header issue or not (I don't have a real systemd system, I am just testing against a temporary installed image created via `ebuild systemd...ebuild install`; Image location is of course added to PKG_CONFIG_PATH so that pkg-config can locate systemd's pc file(s)).
