Given that the "g" logo (which is licensed CC-BY-SA-4.0) is included on all pages, the current CC-BY-SA-3.0 in the page footer isn't entirely correct. Also, GLEP 76 recommends version 4.0 now. A change of the wiki's license would mean that other projects have to follow, whenever they include a significant amount of text from the wiki. But maybe the wiki is a good place to start.
According to the following link CC-BY-SA 3.0 is forward compatible with later versions, including CC-BY-SA 4.0: https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/licensing-considerations/compatible-licenses So the upgrade should be painless, but I'm not a legal expert.
I can confirm that all CC licenses from version 2.5 onward include an “or later” clause, so the update should be painless.
I'm in favor, having trademark and patent explicitly reserved helps too. There are other areas where it shores itself up by being more explicit, but I see no blockers. https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/License_Versions

Ping. I noticed that people are copying passages from the Devmanual (which is distributed under CC-BY-SA-4.0). Strictly speaking, this isn't allowed. So it would be way cleaner if the Wiki was relicensed to version 4.0 as well. CC-BY-SA-4.0 is also what GLEP 76 recommends: https://www.gentoo.org/glep/glep-0076.html#licensing-of-gentoo-projects

Tagged v1.35.3 for skin-tyrian and deployed to wikitest. Also updated the license to CC-BY-SA-4.0 in LocalSettings.php.
Once this is deployed, the [[Gentoo Wiki:Copyrights]] and [[Gentoo Wiki:General disclaimer]] pages also need to be updated.
