Verified that this only happens with LTO builds (non-LTO builds just fine)
I can confirm same build failure in LTO mode.
This issue also occurs with =www-client/firefox-62.0-r1.
Firefox recently received an '--enable-lto' option: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/bb7dec4331c1 I've added EXTRA_ECONF="--eanable-lto" via package.env, but that leads to: mozbuild.configure.options.ConflictingOptionError: Cannot add '--enable-linker=gold' to the implied set because it conflicts with '--enable-linker=lld' that was added earlier
The bug has been closed via the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=59c9e92b639712d4c37ece540582db83afdc8608 commit 59c9e92b639712d4c37ece540582db83afdc8608 Author: Thomas Deutschmann <whissi@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2018-09-23 00:51:42 +0000 Commit: Thomas Deutschmann <whissi@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2018-09-23 01:30:35 +0000 www-client/firefox: add explicit Clang and LTO support - Set USE=lto to enable Link Time Optimization (LTO). It works with either GCC or Clang. - When you want to use Clang to build Firefox you now have to set USE=clang. If not set, GCC will be used. - Using Clang will require lld linker provided by sys-devel/lld.
