Description Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2018-08-16 20:53:51 UTC
gnome-extra/ isn't a dumping ground for misc GTK+ using GUI packages. Please consider pkgmoveing into a more suitable category. My suggestion would be app-crypt.

Hi! I am a proxied maintainer of authenticator; Sorry to mess it up. I did ask folks in #gentoo-proxy for suggestions on where to put the app and majority suggested it to be gnome-extra.

Currently I do not have time for gentoo contributions, but I hope to come to this issue in a month or so.

Would you suggest any extra steps I should take before I move it to app-crypt? I just don't wanna move it there just to receive a similar objection from the 'app-crypt' guys as the one I have receved from gnome-extra.

Maybe discuss this with proxy-maint again too, I'm open to hearing their justification. Though it's better to get this settled before more people start remembering it's in gnome-extra or so.
For moving, you would need to add a move entry to profiles/updates/3Q-2018 (if it gets done in third quarter of the year), this will automatically update the category of the installed package for those that have it already installed. See https://devmanual.gentoo.org/profiles/updates/index.html

After trying to collect as many opinions as possible about where to move this package, I tend to favor the 'sys-auth' category.

I will be working on a pull request.
