Description tt_1 2018-06-17 07:55:32 UTC
dev-vcs/giggle has a bug that leads to a crash when opening a git project. Upstream is virtually dead, there are at least three bugs on bugzilla.gnome.org adressing the issue:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=NEEDINFO&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&product=giggle&query_format=advanced

without any reaction for 4 years.

I'm happy for this package to be tree-cleaned. I don't have the time right at the moment (and I'm not sure of the proper procedure, is it mask for 30 days before removal?), however if you'd like me to do it, I'm also happy to be reassigned this and I'll get to it in July. Any guides on how to remove the package the right way would be appreciated though... 5:) Thanks!
Comment 2 tt_1 2018-06-20 06:12:48 UTC
It's always been that some dev masked a package as last rited and due to be removed within the next 30 days, unless someone is willing to provide patches. Reason here would be that it is unusable and that upstream is virtually dead, ignoring the problem since 2014!

@ikelos
https://devmanual.gentoo.org/ebuild-maintenance/maintenance-tasks/index.html "Removing a package" just did my quizzes yesterday and ran into this question ;)

Awesome, thanks very much! I'll send out the last-rites now... 5:)

For such a p.mask entry, it'd be nice for its users if the p.mask entry listed some alternatives, if any are available. gitg and others.

Sorry, I didn't think of that. Good call, I've updated the entry to mention gitg and git-cola.
