Unfortunately, I do not really know what their official channel is. However, the [README] states, that the official distribution is done via ftp://ftp.mutt.org/pub/mutt . Also the [tags] show new releases. Thanks for looking into this. It seems they stopped sending mails to -announce. So feel free to file another bug in the future should you notice a new version is available.
