@pacho: Can't we just drop the fbsplash use flag? Since splashutils is getting dropped, sys-power/suspend could stay, as it compiles in that way just fine.
is this still needed? Upstream stopped to develop it in 2011 due to: The development of s2ram is not going to be continued after this release and whitelist entries are no longer accepted. New KMS drivers are able to save and restore the state of the graphic card without the need of user space graphics quirks. s2ram will directly suspend the machine if a KMS driver is in use. http://suspend.sourceforge.net/

At least I do, for restoring my session.
is "suspend" the only one working for you with an initramfs? https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Suspend_and_hibernate#Suspend_to_RAM
Pacho, please stop removing packages only because of optional dependency (splashutils) which is going to be tree cleaned problems. You should have masked USE flag instead. I'm removing fbsplash support now (and doing EAPI 7 update). Then package.mask will be removed and USE mask added. (In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #4) > is this still needed? Yes, it is needed. It it the only (known to me) way to have encrypted resume image and it works just fine. > Upstream stopped to develop it in 2011 due to: > The development of s2ram is not going to be continued after this release and > whitelist entries are no longer accepted. Device can be forced without explicit whitelisting.

While this is formally a bug fix, real problem is not fixed: if someone wants to use suspend with framebuffer splash support, they can't because splashutils are badly broken and will be removed. It it just a statement of the fact that we no longer support splashutils. The bug was open in case someone will volunteer to fix splashutils.
