Description Mark 2004-09-21 17:24:41 UTC
Opening any image file with kuickshow I get a black nothing the where the image should be.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to open a image with kuickshow
2. See that it doesn't open an image

Actual Results:
Got the black image

Expected Results:
Showed a nice picture in full color, not just black

I also ran kuickshow from the konsole to see what information it spat out. It seems to say this
when each image is opened.
kuickshow: WARNING: Trying to append a Metadata item for an unknown key (no ItemInfo): EXIF

I don't get a warning when i'm running kuickshow from the konsole. The Preview within Kuickshow works...

Portage 2.0.50-r11 (gcc34-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.4.2, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.8-gentoo-r3)

Qt 3.3.3
Xorg 6.8.0-r1

turning off the composite extension from xorg.conf correct the problem. Ok, it's just a workaround and you cannot use transparency anymore... but it's a good start point :)
Comment 3 Martin Glaude 2004-09-28 10:17:07 UTC
Alternative workaround, as noted here:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89313#c8

Run kuickshow as:

XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 kuickshow

Or construct the appropriate shell script to launch.

Okay, thanks guys for your input
Seems now that we know what is causing this we could probably close this thread, since kde is working on a fix ?
Comment 5 Mark 2004-10-02 05:20:18 UTC
I think upstreams sounds right..
Comment 6 Ian Hubbertz 2004-10-29 02:49:59 UTC
As workaround, you may add a patch to the makefile to create a simple wrapper script?
